We have been working hard towards becoming better artists, and the work that has been developed here lately is a true reflection of this effort! With that, I am proud to tell you that we have EIGHT artists who have already committed to submitting work to the Utah State Fair! As this is a juried show, I can't promise that all eight will get in, but I can tell you that each of these artists is miles beyond where they were last year. I am incredibly proud of the continuous effort and joy that all of these folks put into their art! So, put it on your calendar now! The Utah State Fair runs from September 4th-14th at the fairgrounds in Salt Lake City. We hope to see you there!

Jon is always up for a challenge. And when the challenge comes from the super cool Urban Arts Gallery, he puts in an all new sort of energy! Of all of our artists, this gallery fits most closely with Jon's style--witty, sassy, and a little edgy. The Urban Arts Gallery put a call out to artists for Christmas ornaments for their Holiday Bazaar. Jon made his ornaments--and they are awesome! You should probably hop over to the Bazaar this weekend to check 'em out! The Urban Arts Gallery is in the Gateway, and will be open Friday from 6-9pm, Saturday from 12-8pm, and Sunday from 12-6pm. Jon has earned the Bragging Rights for the week!
We've got super awesome volunteers. For real. Our newest volunteer, Meghan, is leading a Mixed Media class (think photography, sewing, and who knows what else)! It's particularly awesome when we get to use DSLR cameras! Check these guys out--they are pros!
I had several college professors ask me to consider going into education. I have NO desire to work with 30 kids or deal with state-decided curriculum. BUT I LOVE MAKING POSTERS! We learned all about hue, value, and saturation, and then created the red scale below using paint chips (we sure love free supplies)! These guys did an AWESOME job. This stuff is tough, and they were all super motivated to continue to
One of our wonderful volunteers led a class today exploring lighting--spotlights, outdoor, and full lighting. We LOVE having our pictures taken here, so each person took a turn being the model and photographer. More images to come! I don't know about you, but I'm in love with these images!
We have been GROWING! Check out this open studio from last week! It was full of music, laughter, and creat
The end of March FLEW by! We have been up to so much in the last few weeks--shape studies, music classes, clay, singing, dancing, and pretty much everything else you could possibly imagine. Here is a little taste of our Artist of the Month class from last week. We are currently studying Wassily Kandinsky--the Father of Abstract!
Today we discussed how, when we take our work seriously, the world takes our work seriously. As people, it is difficult to be patient, both with the materials that we use and with ourselves. We spent part of the morning painting inside the lines with all of the different brushes, and experimenting with different brush strokes. Sometimes, we just need to practice using our materials so that our artwork can be a reflection of our best skills!
We've had this canvas for a while, and decided to pull it out for the Gala. We had paints and brushes out so that everyone could contribute to the community painting. Didn't it turn out cool?! I'm a big fan of the Yoda, octopus, and the drummer in the top middle of the painting. What's your favorite part?
We have been working through some fundamentals of art--learning about line, texture, and value. Yesterday, we learned about the value scales, and how each color has a different value! Tough stuff! We had a great time making our scales and chatting, while the snow was coming down outside. Hope all of you are staying safe and warm!
